SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Root of Sherman, who passed away on September 7, 2016; and

WHEREAS, David Root was born in DeKalb to James and Beverly Root on February 23, 1974; he graduated from Hampshire High School in 1992; he earned his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University in 1997 and his master's degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield; he attained his Superintendent Endorsement from Illinois State University; he married Julie Smith in Decatur on August 5, 2000; and

WHEREAS, David Root served as Superintendent of the Williamsville-Sherman School District since 2007; he worked as an administrator in the Greenview and Athens School Districts from 2002 through 2007; he taught and coached in Williamsville prior to his administrative service; and

WHEREAS, David Root received the University of Illinois at Springfield Administrators' Round Table Citation for Distinguished Professional Service (2009-2010), where he served as President; in 2015, he was awarded Superintendent of Distinction from the Illinois Association of School Administrators Abe Lincoln Region and the Superintendent of the Year from Horace Mann; he was honored with an Award of Excellence from the Villages of Sherman and Williamsville in 2015; and

WHEREAS, David Root was a dedicated family man and enjoyed watching his children participate in their activities; he was a talented musician and athlete and had the unique ability to be the funniest person in the room; and

WHEREAS, David Root was preceded in death by his father, James Root; and

WHEREAS, David Root is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Mia and Dalton; his mother, Beverly; his brother, Darren (Kim) Root; his sisters, Dawn (Steve) McGrath, Darla (Hank) Gunn, Debbie (Deron) Rueff, and Dyan Lausas; his father and mother-in-law, David and Susan Smith; his sisters-in-law, Janet Smith, Jennifer (Andy) Smith-Multerer, and Colleen Smith; his brother-in-law, Kevin (Sara) Smith; and his nieces and nephews, Carson and Morgan Root, Chris and Nick McGrath, Kevin, Kyle, Kelly, and Katie McCarthy, Mitchel and Elaina Gunn, Jackson, Taylor, and Grant Rueff, Brittney Lausas, and Ethan and Max Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Root, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Root as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
