SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harold Karl Johnson of Peoria, who passed away on August 6, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was born in Moline to Carl and Bessie Nelson Johnson on November 24, 1929; he served in the United States Army and married Barbara Anne Liedtke in Davenport, Iowa on February 20, 1954; and

WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was employed by John Deere Plow Planter Works for 32 years, retiring in 1984; he served on the Moline City Council for 12 years, where he chaired the Finance Committee and was mayor pro tem; he was instrumental in the Moline RiverFest and Ben Butterworth Parkway development; and

WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was an elder and treasurer at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline; he was a member of the board of directors of the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club; he was an avid golfer and sportsman and followed the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Illini, and Tampa Bay Rays; he loved his kids and grandkids and attended all of their events and graduations; and

WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joseph Messing, and his siblings, Judy Smith, Lois Swanson, and Leonard Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Harold Johnson is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Marci Messing, Mark (Karen) Johnson, and Scott (Michelle) Johnson; his grandchildren, Michael (Autumn) Messing, Molly Messing (Ryan Abbott), Sarah Messing, Derek Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; and his brother and sisters-in-law, Paul and Darlene Johnson, and Marilyn Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harold Karl Johnson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harold Johnson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
