SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Debby Miller, who passed away on July 23, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Debby Miller served as a Schaumburg Township District Library Trustee from 1971 through 2015, holding the offices of library board President, Vice-President/Secretary, and Treasurer; she was an active member of the community and advocate for libraries and intellectual freedom; and

WHEREAS, Debby Miller held leadership roles in the North Suburban Library System, the Illinois Library Association, the American Library Association, the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates, and the National Library of Education Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Debby Miller received numerous awards including the Illinois Humanities Council Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award, the Illinois Library Association Intellectual Freedom Award, the American Library Association White House Conference on Libraries Citizen of the Year Award, and an American Library Association Trustee Citation; and

WHEREAS, Debby Miller was a leader in the community and a strong voice for literacy and public libraries nationwide; she was also a key player in many community organizations; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Debby Miller, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Debby Miller as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
