SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of E. Allan Englehardt of Lake Bluff, who passed away on May 9, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Highland Park High School; he graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in aviation; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt had a long career as a pilot for United Airlines; he was a designated pilot examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) out of the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, where he later served as Chairman of the Board; he operated his own ground school program from 1974 until 1989; he was part of the successful lobbying effort to get the FAA to raise the retirement age for airline pilots from 60 to 65; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt stepped down from the Chicago Executive Airport in 2013 but remained active at the airport, including as a member of its flying club; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt enjoyed visiting Civil War sites, riding his motorcycle, attending live theater and operas, and speaking with young people about how to get into aviation; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2009, named FAA national, regional, and district flight instructor of the year in 1976, and named FAA regional and district aviation safety counselor of the year in 1990 and 1993; and

WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt is survived by his wife, Diana; his daughter, Tricia Negel; his sons, Tison and Allan Joseph; five grandchildren; and his brother, William; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of E. Allan Englehardt, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Allan Englehardt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
