SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jacob Manning Schmitz, who passed away on
4June 13, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was a junior at Brother Rice High
6School; he previously graduated as valedictorian from St.
7Christina with the class of 2013; he was a proud Edmund Rice
8Scholar and earned superior honors with a GPA of over 4.7 and
9an ACT score of 32 on his first attempt; he planned to study
10engineering and medicine at a top university after graduation;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz served as student council secretary
13for the 2015-2016 school year and was the only junior elected
14to the executive board; in April of 2016, he was proud to be
15elected student council president for 2016-2017; he was a
16member of the National Honor Society and volunteered as a
17counselor at Blessed Edmund Rice Camp; he was also selected for
18and attended several leadership conferences throughout the
19United States; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz loved snow skiing, jet-skiing, and
21watersports and earned his boating license at the age of 12; he
22also loved the beaches in Michigan, traveling, and attending

1Greenwoods Camp in Michigan each summer; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was preceded in death by his
3grandmother, Patricia; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was the beloved son of Leo Schmitz
5and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz; the best friend and grandson of Leo
6"Gerard" Schmitz; the cherished grandson of Ben (Maureen) Weiss
7and Suzanne (Dr. John) Weiss; and the adored nephew and cousin
8of many; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Jacob Manning Schmitz;
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jacob Schmitz as an expression of
15our sympathy.
