SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alphonso Joseph "Al" Castel Sr. of Moline, who passed away on May 26, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Alphonso Castel Sr. was born in Davenport, Iowa to Jesus and Sara Valdez Castel on April 20, 1924; he served in the United States Army during World War II and married Florence Ahrens in Davenport, Iowa in 1946; he later married Elizabeth Inman in Galesburg on October 17, 1982; and

WHEREAS, Alphonso Castel Sr. was employed at International Harvester Farmall Works in Rock Island for 36 years, retiring in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Alphonso Castel Sr. was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and VFW Post #8890 in East Moline; he enjoyed bowling and boxing; and

WHEREAS, Alphonso Castel Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, and his siblings, Jesse Castel, Teresa Alonzo, Cora Ahrens, and Petra Palos; and

WHEREAS, Alphonso Castel Sr. is survived by his children and their spouses, Diana Soliz, Ramona and Eric Gumban, Becky and David Navarro, Joseph Castel, Scott and Martina Castel, and Shane Castel; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings and their spouses, Anne Montecino, Sarah and Peter Compos, and Raymond and Gay Castel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alphonso Joseph "Al" Castel Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alphonso Castel Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
