SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence R. "Chauncey" Powers of Seminole, Florida, formerly of Moline, who passed away on December 10, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Powers was born in Boone, Iowa to John and Elizabeth Kelly Powers on August 21, 1921; he graduated from Sacred Heart Grade and High School in Boone in 1939; he joined the Iowa National Guard in August of 1936 and the United States Army in February of 1941; he served during World War II and was discharged from the Army in June of 1945; he married Dorothy Youngvorst in Davenport, Iowa on October 17, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Powers joined the Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1945 and worked at various locations in the State of Illinois for 37 years, retiring in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Powers' wife, Dorothy, passed away on December 12, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Powers was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Powers is survived by his sister, Shirley Ann Walker, and his nieces, Marcia Youngvorst, Lauren Gekas, and Sue (Gene) DuPont; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Clarence R. "Chauncey" Powers, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clarence Powers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
