SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William A. Schultz, Jr. of Silvis, who passed away on April 26, 2016; and

WHEREAS, William Schultz, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William Arthur Schultz, Sr. and Gertrude Emma Mason on November 21, 1935; he was raised by his mother and stepfather, William Hancock, Sr.; he married Tempy Foster in Valparaiso, Florida on April 4, 1968; he later married Margie Carlson Weeks in Rock Island on February 14, 1981; and

WHEREAS, William Schultz, Jr. served in the United States Naval Reserve, the Marine Corps, and the Army before retiring from the Air Force; he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart; he later worked as a cook and as a bartender for several area businesses, such as the Franciscan Hospital and Murphy's Bar, both in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, William Schultz, Jr. enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and hockey, dancing, darts, bowling, collecting knives, reading James Patterson novels, and watching old Westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies; and

WHEREAS, William Schultz, Jr. was preceded in death by his stepson, Mike Weeks, and his brothers, Pete and Butch Hancock; and

WHEREAS, William Schultz, Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Margie; his two sons, William A. Schultz and girlfriend, Bianca Vera, and Scott Schultz and fiancee, Brandy Dalessandro; his stepchildren, Steve and Lori Weeks, David and Julie Weeks, Pam and David Howe, and Lt. Col. Doug Weeks and Sheri; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and his siblings and their spouses, Diane and Dimtry Kosty, Ann Prochorenkos, Mary and Jerry Merklinger, and Ellen Mayer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William A. Schultz, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Schultz, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
