SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Vivian Hickey of Rockford, who passed away on April 28, 2016, at the age of 100; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was a Rockford icon who served in the Illinois Senate and on the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the original Rock Valley College Board of Trustees when it was founded in 1964; she was also a member of the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was appointed to the Illinois Senate's 34th District in 1974; she served one four-year term; the seat became known as "The Woman's Seat" for the several women who filled it; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was a member of the "Crazy-8", a group of eight senators known to act independently from the rest of the Senate; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was an extraordinary person; she was close to her family, close to her community, and a respected State Senator; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Senator Vivian Hickey, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Senator Hickey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
