SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James E. Haronik of Silvis, who passed away on April 14, 2016; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik was born on December 30, 1939 in Milan; his parents were Alvin J. and Evelyn R. Mandel Haronik; he married Leonette M. "Lea" Mielke on August 19, 1972 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik graduated from Alleman High School and St. Ambrose College; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik served as a sergeant in the Illinois National Guard and with the United States Army Reserve; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik retired in 2000 after 34 1/2 years of government service, having worked for the Department of the Army at the Rock Island Arsenal; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik was a longtime active member at St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, Mass server, and money counter; he volunteered as a scout leader and served as a timer for Alleman High School track and cross country meets; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik enjoyed woodworking and made furniture and other useful items for his home, children, and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Theresa VanLandegen; and

WHEREAS, James Haronik is survived by his wife, Leonette; his children, Ann (Britt) Maier, David (Heather) Haronik, and Julie Haronik; his grandchildren, Derek and Kyle Haronik and Lizzie, Katie and Abbie Maier; his sisters, Sister Veronica Haronik, V.H.M., Kathryn Hall, Beverly (Richard) Rausch, and Cynthia Sullivan; his brothers, Martin (Coni) Haronik and John Haronik (Jeff Goldman); his brother-in-law, Daniel VanLandegen; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of James E. Haronik; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Haronik as an expression of our sympathy.
