SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lanny R. "Steve" Biehler of Port Byron, who passed away on March 28, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler was born on July 25, 1942, in Freemont, Ohio; his parents were Leonard and Ada Mae Biehler; he married Helen Bechtler on June 30, 1962 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Lanny Biehler served his country proudly in the United States Navy; he later continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler worked at KJWW in Rock Island, and then at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Facilities Engineer, where he retired after 20 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler sang in the Augustana Oratori Society and Black Hawk Community Chorus; he was also a member of the River Valley Writers Group, the LeClaire Writers Group, and the Midwest Writing Center and the Master Gardener at Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler had a deep faith in his Lord and loved serving in his church, Messiah Lutheran in Port Byron; he served on many committees and singing and playing the conga drums in the church praise band; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler wrote poetry, enjoyed gardening and nature and was known as being a "Granola Head"; he also loved cooking, brewing and drinking his homemade beer, reading for the blind on the WVIK Public Radio Station, attending Via de Cristo, and spending time with his family, friends, and fiancee; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; his wife, Helen, and his great-granddaughter, Serena O'Hanlon; and

WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler is survived by his mother, Ada; his fiancee, Lynn; his children, Chris (Will) Bradshaw and Thomas Biehler; his grandchildren Emily, Katie, Therin (Abby Blake-Bradshaw), Amber Bradshaw (fiance, Skyler O'Hanlon), and Trey Bradshaw; and his brother, Jerry (Shirley) Biehler; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Lanny R. "Steve" Biehler; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lanny Biehler as an expression of our sympathy.
