SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lanny R. "Steve" Biehler of Port Byron,
4who passed away on March 28, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler was born on July 25, 1942, in
6Freemont, Ohio; his parents were Leonard and Ada Mae Biehler;
7he married Helen Bechtler on June 30, 1962 in Chicago; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Lanny Biehler
9served his country proudly in the United States Navy; he later
10continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts in
11Electrical Engineering; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler worked at KJWW in Rock Island, and
13then at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Facilities Engineer, where
14he retired after 20 years of service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler sang in the Augustana Oratori
16Society and Black Hawk Community Chorus; he was also a member
17of the River Valley Writers Group, the LeClaire Writers Group,
18and the Midwest Writing Center and the Master Gardener at
19Illinois State University; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler had a deep faith in his Lord and

1loved serving in his church, Messiah Lutheran in Port Byron; he
2served on many committees and singing and playing the conga
3drums in the church praise band; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler wrote poetry, enjoyed gardening and
5nature and was known as being a "Granola Head"; he also loved
6cooking, brewing and drinking his homemade beer, reading for
7the blind on the WVIK Public Radio Station, attending Via de
8Cristo, and spending time with his family, friends, and
9fiancee; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler was preceded in death by his father,
11Leonard; his wife, Helen, and his great-granddaughter, Serena
12O'Hanlon; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lanny Biehler is survived by his mother, Ada; his
14fiancee, Lynn; his children, Chris (Will) Bradshaw and Thomas
15Biehler; his grandchildren Emily, Katie, Therin (Abby
16Blake-Bradshaw), Amber Bradshaw (fiance, Skyler O'Hanlon), and
17Trey Bradshaw; and his brother, Jerry (Shirley) Biehler;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Lanny R. "Steve"
22Biehler; and be it further
