SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas L. Oeffling; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling was born on December 30, 1937 in Johnsburg; his parents were Alfred and Marie Oeffling; he married Andrea Brennan on February 17, 1962, at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg; and

WHEREAS, After high school, Thomas Oeffling served our country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps for two years; he was stationed at Twentynine Palms in California; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling was a lifelong resident of Johnsburg and a member of St. John the Baptist Church; he served on the District 12 Board of Education and was the coach of several Little League and St. John's basketball teams; he also served as secretary of the Johnsburg Community Club and as ticket captain for Johnsburg Old Timers; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling was a union carpenter at Joseph Frett and Son for 45 years; after retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he golfed and relaxed with his friends; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling enjoyed playing Monday night golf with his close friends; he was a fan of all sports, but particularly baseball, and was a devoted Cubs fan his entire life; he was also a member of the renowned Johnsburg Tigers and played softball for Hettermann's Tavern; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Kathryn Brennan; his brothers-in-law, Edward Tonyan and Gerard Brennan; and his sister-in-law, Moira McDonough; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Oeffling is survived by his wife of 54 years, Andy Oeffling; his children, Elizabeth "Beth" (John) Gerritsen, Laura (Patty Mitchell) Oeffling, and Tom (Megan) Oeffling; his grandchildren, John, Jeff, and Joe Gerritsen, Kate Mitchell, and Tommy, Wynne, and Maura Oeffling; his siblings, Janice Tonyan, Ardelle (Ron) Conway, Bill (Debbie) Oeffling, Phil (Linda) Oeffling, and Julie (Bill) Ledger; his brothers-in-law, Jim McDonough and Robert (Judy) Brennan; his sisters-in-law, Pat Brennan and Ellen Brennan; and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Thomas L. Oeffling; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Oeffling as an expression of our sympathy.
