SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis "Merritt" Goddard, Jr. of Moline,
4who passed away on March 6, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was born on February 4, 1923 in
6Moline; his parents were Louis Merritt and Madeline Lynch
7Goddard, Sr.; he married Georgia Ann Slater on September 19,
81942 at Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. served in the United States
10Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the South
11Pacific; he then served in the United States Naval Reserve from
121945 until 1951; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. graduated from Rock Island High
14School; on January 28, 1946, he began his pattern maker
15apprenticeship at John Deere Plow Works; after becoming a
16journeyman, he worked as a salaried employee before returning
17to the Quad-Cities to work for the John Deere Planter Works in
181964; he worked as an advanced engineering analyst for John
19Deere Harvester in Moline for 38 years until his retirement on
20February 28, 1982; after his retirement, he and his wife spent
21their time traveling and fishing; and

1    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was a member of the Pattern
2Makers League of North America, the American Foundry Society,
3and the Plus 60 Club; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. enjoyed woodworking, fishing,
5playing cards, working puzzles, and spending time with his
6daughters and his grandchildren; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. was preceded in death by his
8parents; his wife, Georgia Ann; his brother; and his sister;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Louis Goddard, Jr. is survived by his daughters,
11Patty Stinson, Rebecca (Russ) Carlyle, and Jane (Glenn)
12Piliponis; his nine grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren;
13his ten great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Louis "Merritt"
18Goddard, Jr.; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Louis Goddard, Jr. as an expression
21of our sympathy.
