SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. James Charles Crangle of Rock Island, who passed away on January 17, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Crangle was born in Chicago to James and Elizabeth McMurray Crangle on October 23, 1919; he served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and during the Korean War as a Chaplain's Assistant; he married Anne B. Zeigler in Chicago on April 13, 1957; he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Dubuque and graduated from the Dubuque Theological Seminary; he married Barbara (Wangelin) Nelson in Rock Island on May 20, 1989; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Crangle served as Pastor of the Presbyterian Community Church in Rock Falls, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, and the Coldbrook Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cameron; he also served at a number of churches as their interim pastor; while in the Sterling/Rock Falls area, he founded Self Help Enterprises, a sheltered workshop for those with developmental disabilities; most recently, he was affiliated with 15th Avenue Christian Church; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Crangle was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Rock Island and the Rotary Club in Monmouth; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Crangle was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne; his three sisters; and his brother; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Crangle is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Barbara A. Dean; his stepson, Doug (Marcia) Nelson; his stepdaughter, Kathi (Jeff) Barnes; his step-grandchildren, Andy (Kelly) Nelson, Matt Nelson, Dan Barnes, Eric (Keila) Barnes, and Karen Barnes; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. James Charles Crangle, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Crangle as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
