SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Duane F. Heward of Peoria, who passed away on February 22, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward was born on March 12, 1931 in Princeton; his parents were Ernest and Sylvena Peterson Heward; he married Pauline "Polly" Bayer on May 20, 1978; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward served in the Army National Guard during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a Bradley University graduate; he worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company as an accountant for 35 years until his retirement in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a very active volunteer at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria; he served on the board at the United Way, Friendship House, and the Peoria Housing Authority; he was a Peoria Precinct Committeeman; he was a founding member of Habitat for Humanity in the Peoria area; he and his wife were the original recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award given by Counseling and Family Services, which has continued to be given annually as "The Duane & Polly Heward Volunteer of the Year Award"; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a member of Glen Oak Christian Church, where he served as Elder and on several different boards; he also was an associate member of First Christian Church in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his daughter, Kathleen Lemon; his brother, Harold; and his sister, Rozina; and

WHEREAS, Duane Heward is survived by his daughters, Doreen (Ken) Stachowicz, Pamela (Frank) Hanson, Rebecca "Becky" Chapman, and Christie (George) George; his 9 grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Neva (Russ) Wager; his many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Shifu; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Duane F. Heward; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Duane Heward as an expression of our sympathy.
