SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James "Roy" Cox of Erie, who passed away on February 15, 2016; and

WHEREAS, James Cox was born in Erie to Clay and Florence Quade Cox on January 27, 1926; he served in the United States Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947; he married Arvilla Updyke on November 11, 1949; and

WHEREAS, James Cox was a farmer; he also worked as an electrician for Heuer Electric in Erie and as a custodian for the Erie Community School District, from which he retired; and

WHEREAS, James Cox was a member of Erie American Legion Post 582, where he previously held all of the Chairs, including Commander; he also held many Chairs and served as Commander of the American Legion 13th District from 1984 to 1985; he was a member of the American Legion from 1947 to 2016; he was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, Geneseo, and he helped with the Special Olympics in Bloomington-Normal for many years; he enjoyed bowling; and

WHEREAS, James Cox was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arvilla; his brother; and 3 sisters; and

WHEREAS, James Cox is survived by his children and their spouses, Karna (Raymond) Wood, Terry (Kris) Cox, Lois (Mark) Boelens, Fay (David) Haan, and Brian (Chris) Cox; his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Jeanne Kay, Ava Biggs, and Anne (Jim) Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James "Roy" Cox, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Cox as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
