SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Emma Lee McCullum of Joliet, who passed away on January 19, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was born to Pink and Lacy Jones in Heidelberg, Mississippi on January 19, 1933; she married Weems McCullum, Sr. on Christmas Eve in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Emma McCullum enjoyed a career of more than 30 years at Caterpillar, Inc. and was in the first group of women hired by the company; and

WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 60 years; she also volunteered at the Second Baptist and Sacred Heart Blessing Tables; her house was open to anyone who needed a meal; she possessed the gifts of generosity and conversation and never met a stranger; and

WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 brothers; and her sister; and

WHEREAS, Emma McCullum is survived by her husband, Weems McCullum, Sr.; her 2 daughters, Edna (Saul) Brass and LaJean (Steven) Grossett; her 2 sons, Derrick "Donnie" McCullum and Weems (Tracy) McCullum, Jr.; her stepson, Thomas (Georgia) Bridges; her sister, Laura Ann McCurdy; her 2 brothers, Sharbor (Eloise) Jones and Joseph (Ellen) Jones; her grandchildren, Essence (Michael) Clark, Sharralyn (Wendell) Martin, E. Marissa (Danielle) Cochran, Weems (Carlicia) McCullum III, Clifford McCullum, Demetria Bridges, Centralia Bridges, and Thomas Bridges; her great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and the crew at the Second Baptist and Sacred Heart Blessing Tables; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Emma Lee McCullum, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Emma McCullum as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
