SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Pedro D. "Pete" Ortiz, Jr. of East Moline, who passed away on December 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Ortiz was born in El Paso, Texas on January 15, 1921 to Pedro and Rosanda (nee Delgado) Ortiz, Sr.; he served as an armed guard in the United States Navy during World War II and married Suzanna Gomez in Fort Madison, Iowa on June 13, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Ortiz worked as a body man at the former Warren Chevrolet in East Moline and at Reynolds Ford; he retired from the former International Harvester in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Ortiz was a member of St. Anne Parish; he was a Life Member of the VFW 8890; he was a self-taught musician and played the drums with local and traveling bands; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Ortiz was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Mary Martinez, Hope Martinez, Ceta Lopez, Frank Ortiz, and Esther Guzman; and his daughter, Nancy Rose; and

WHEREAS, Pedro Ortiz is survived by his wife of 66 years, Suzanna; his children, Patricia (Gregory) Ramirez, David Ortiz, and Michael Ortiz; his 6 grandchildren; his 7 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Pedro D. "Pete" Ortiz, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pedro Ortiz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
