SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Merwin Perry Baker of East Moline, who passed away on January 3, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Merwin Baker was born in East Moline on February 22, 1926 to Commodore Perry and Barbara Findley Baker; he served as a radio operator on a ship in the United States Navy during World War II, seeing action at Imo Jima; he married Margaret Larson at St. Johns Catholic Church in Rapids City on October 19, 1946; and

WHEREAS, Merwin Baker retired from International Harvester in East Moline after over 34 years in 1978; he also worked at Flicks Plumbing for many years; and

WHEREAS, Merwin Baker was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Moline and American Legion Post 227; and

WHEREAS, Merwin Baker was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Helena Eckert; his brother, Kenneth Baker; his son, Steve Baker; and his grandson, Paul Baker; and

WHEREAS, Merwin Baker is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret; his children, Linda (Jeff) Vaughn, Kathleen McIntosh (Jim Turner), Marcia Allen, Christine Baker (Don "Speedy" Williams), Denise Baker, Daniel Baker (Pammy Gomez), Marty Baker, Pamela Baker, Paula Baker, and Sandra (Floyd) Cordova; he has 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Merwin Perry Baker, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Merwin Baker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
