SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence Herbert "Bob" Alley, who passed away on November 26, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was born on October 10, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio; his parents were James Nelson Alley and Emma Spears Harris (nee Wallace); and

WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Clarence Alley served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966; he later earned a Ph.D. in public administration; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley retired from the University of Illinois in December of 2003 after many years of service; following his retirement, he spent his time volunteering at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, playing the guitar, having regular breakfast meetings with his friends, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley became interested in music at a young age, participating in Sunday hootenannies with his family; he loved classic rock and old country and played lead guitar in a number of bands over the years, his last band being NTL (Never Too Late), where he played with his cousin, David Spears; he also played a few gigs with his son, Phil; he was also an avid bike rider; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was a member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Rantoul, where he served as Bishop's Warden for many years and was in charge of the music program; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Wallace Harris; and his sister, Joyce Alley Spurlock (Lewis T.); and

WHEREAS, Clarence Alley is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Leonard Alley; his children, Stacey (Chuck) Sohn, Heather (Joe) Ketchem, Philip Alley, and Emily (Dan) Yarger; his brother, Robert (Brenda) Harris; his sisters, Barbara (Leonard) Winchester, Julitta Allen, and Lisa (Jake) Redden; his grandchildren, Hannah Hilton, Josh Hilton, Henry Sohn, and Phoebe Sohn; and his beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Clarence Herbert "Bob" Alley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clarence Alley as an expression of our sympathy.
