SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139

 
2    WHEREAS, Certain communities on the Northwest side of the
3City of Chicago lay underneath the key nighttime air routes
4that converge over the community; this includes 5 glide paths,
52 major take-off plates, and air routes, all used after 10
6p.m.; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Certain communities on the Northwest side of the
8City of Chicago seek a solution to the nighttime sleep
9interruptions during the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., including
10the shoulder hours as well; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Nextgen Program is currently being applied at
12O'Hare International Airport, where flights that used to be
135-miles spaced apart will soon have only a 3-mile separation,
14times 6 east-to-west approach patterns for all inbound flights;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, These communities of the City of Chicago and the
17surrounding suburbs of both Cook and DuPage Counties are
18experiencing higher levels of jet noise, especially during the
19phase 1 nighttime flight operations; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Federal

1Aviation Administration and the United States Environmental
2Protection Agency to conduct a study describing the
3environmental and human health impacts caused by runways and
4air traffic noise at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and
5the actual noise levels experienced in 2015; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7delivered to the Commissioner of O'Hare International Airport,
8the Acting Administrator of the Federal Aeronautics
9Administration, and to each member of the Illinois
10congressional delegation.
