SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harry Orr, Jr. of Moline, who passed away on December 6, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was born in East Moline on June 24, 1924 to Harry, Sr. and Vera Williams Orr; he graduated from United Township High School in 1942 and enlisted in the United States Navy, earning 5 battle stars for his service in the Pacific Theater during World War II; he later graduated from the Bradley School of Horology; he married Beverly Stratton on September 8, 1946 in East Moline; and

WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was the owner and operator of Harry Orr Jewelers for 45 years, retiring in December of 1999; and

WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was very involved in his community, serving in various public positions, including: the Rock Island Police and Fire Commission, the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Commission, the Illinois State Police Merit Board, the Rock Island Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Chamber of Commerce, the Young Republicans, and the Polio Foundation of Rock Island County; he was also a member of the Tebala Shrine (Rockford); the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 129; Trio Lodge No. 57, A.F. & A.M.; the Scottish Rite Valley of Moline; the Royal Arch; he was a member of American Legion Post 227 in East Moline; he received several awards for his involvement, including the Meritorious Service Medal from the Illinois State Police and the Distinguished Service Award from the Rock Island Junior Chamber of Commerce; he was recognized by the Boy Scouts of America for Meritorious Service; and

WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; his son, Steven; and his grandson, Jeremiah; and

WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. is survived by his son, Jeffery (Jeanette) Orr; his grandchildren, Mitchell Orr, Nicholas Orr, and Katelyn Orr; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Jillian and Spencer Orr; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harry Orr, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harry Orr, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
