SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald Smith of Moline, who passed away on November 24, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith was born on October 7, 1937 in Hannibal, Missouri; his parents were Herb and Ida Rothfuss Smith; he married Helen Hantz on March 25, 1960 in East Moline; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith proudly served as a member of the United States Army; during his service, while stationed in Japan, he received a commendation for hanging a vital communication wire during a typhoon; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith worked as a foreman for Case New Holland for many years until his retirement in 1993; following his retirement, he continued to work for Case New Holland in Brazil; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith was an avid hunter and a life member of the Bi-State Sportsman Association in Colona; he also shot in skeet tournaments; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Adam Dobereiner; and his sister, Karen Sue Smith; and

WHEREAS, Donald Smith is survived by his wife, Helen Smith; his children, Peter David (Terri) Smith, Lee Ann Dobereiner, and Elizabeth (Tim) Krahl; his 7 grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Linda (Dale) Hurley and Diane Halley; and his brothers, Ronald Smith, Ernest (Linda) Smith, Mike (Rita) Smith, Larry Smith, and Dennis (Lori) Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald Smith; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Smith as an expression of our sympathy.
