SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert D. "Bob" Nelson, formerly of Coal Valley, who passed away on October 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 1, 1933 to Melvin and Meta (nee Fredricksen) Nelson; he graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Cornell College; he was a wrestler in high school and in college; he served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman and then a plank holder on the USS Lexington; he also served aboard the USS Princeton during the Korean conflict; he earned National Defense and Good Conduct awards; he married Marsha Reed on July 6, 1959 at Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was employed by Bituminous Insurance Corporation for 45 years and retired as Vice-President in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Bob Nelson enjoyed golf and was a volunteer at the John Deere Classic for more than 20 years; he enjoyed family travels and many trips with Marsha to Europe; he was most proud that all 3 of his children graduated from college; he was also a huge fan of the Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha; his parents; and his brother, Doug Nelson; and

WHEREAS, Bob Nelson is survived by his children, James (Shellie) Nelson, Barbara (Chuck) Lyon, and Drake A. (Heather) Nelson; his grandchildren, Drake R. Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Caine "C.J." Klingerman, Destiny Nelson, and Shelby Nelson; his great-grandson, Caine Jr.; and treasured lifelong friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert D. "Bob" Nelson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Nelson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
