SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert D. "Bob" Nelson, formerly of Coal
4Valley, who passed away on October 18, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June
61, 1933 to Melvin and Meta (nee Fredricksen) Nelson; he
7graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Cornell
8College; he was a wrestler in high school and in college; he
9served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman and then a plank
10holder on the USS Lexington; he also served aboard the USS
11Princeton during the Korean conflict; he earned National
12Defense and Good Conduct awards; he married Marsha Reed on July
136, 1959 at Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was employed by Bituminous Insurance
15Corporation for 45 years and retired as Vice-President in 1998;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bob Nelson enjoyed golf and was a volunteer at the
18John Deere Classic for more than 20 years; he enjoyed family
19travels and many trips with Marsha to Europe; he was most proud
20that all 3 of his children graduated from college; he was also
21a huge fan of the Chicago Bears; and

1    WHEREAS, Bob Nelson was preceded in death by his wife,
2Marsha; his parents; and his brother, Doug Nelson; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bob Nelson is survived by his children, James
4(Shellie) Nelson, Barbara (Chuck) Lyon, and Drake A. (Heather)
5Nelson; his grandchildren, Drake R. Nelson, Taylor Nelson,
6Caine "C.J." Klingerman, Destiny Nelson, and Shelby Nelson; his
7great-grandson, Caine Jr.; and treasured lifelong friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Robert D. "Bob" Nelson, and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bob Nelson as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
