SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Robert McMahon of Woodstock, who passed away on October 26, 2015; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon was born in Chicago on September 14, 1937 to John and Esther (nee Johnson) McMahon; he graduated from DePaul Academy in 1956; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon was employed by Illinois Bell, "Mother Bell", for his entire professional career; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon's service in the United States Coast Guard for 8 years sparked a life-long love of the water, which he passed on to his children; they spent many weekends fishing and boating on the sandbar in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; he was a motorcycle enthusiast and owned and rode many motorcycles throughout his lifetime; the years he spent on his Honda Goldwing were his favorite, riding well into his seventies; he enjoyed many trips with his club, The Back Road Riders; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon coached soccer, took stats at volleyball games, and attended more than his fair share of musicals, concerts, horse races, and Boy Scout campouts - all to support his children; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, John McMahon was the loving father of Kathleen (Terry) McCallister, John McMahon, Melissa (Don Thomas) McMahon, Thomas McMahon, and Meredith (Deryl) Sweeney; he was the grandfather or "papa" of Sean, Justin, Olivia, Charlotte, and Samuel; he is also survived by his sister, Ann (Stu) Alderson, and many loving nephews and nieces; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Robert McMahon, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John McMahon as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
