SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Vernon Thomas Kopsell of Woodstock, who passed away on October 24, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Kopsell was born in Woodstock on September 25, 1925 to George and Lillian (nee Wilson) Kopsell; he finished 8th grade and went on to the Washburne Trade School in Chicago; he enlisted in the United States Army at 16 and was stationed in the Pacific during World War II with the 503rd Parachute RCT Association; he also served as a Liaison Pilot during this time; he returned home on December 25, 1945; he married Barbara Fuchs in Bakersfield, California on December 16, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Kopsell was a very skillful and creative plasteer and bricklayer; his handiwork can be found around McHenry County as well as the Chicagoland area; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Kopsell was a founding member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars; he did volunteer work at McHenry County Historical Society and loved to read biographies and watch westerns; he enjoyed feeding the birds, old cars, airplanes, and taking care of his garden; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Kopsell was preceded in death by his wife, "My Barbara"; his mother and father; his sisters, Florence and Lucille; and his brother, Kenneth; and

WHEREAS, Vernon Kopsell is survived by his daughters, Judy Kopsell and Janice (Danny) Schroeder; his grandchildren, Julie Morse, Andy (Ellen) Schroeder, and Jessica Schroeder; his great-grandchildren, AJ Schroeder, Ian Morse, James Morse, Gabbie Morse, and Alena Schroeder; and his siblings, Clarence Kopsell, George Kopsell, Jim Kopsell, Bill Kopsell, Don Kopsell, Dorothy Gibson, Darlene Gathman, Barb Murray, and Linda Levan; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Vernon Thomas Kopsell, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vernon Kopsell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
