SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Pressman of Lake Forest, previously of Highland Park and Wilmette, who passed away on October 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Charles Pressman was born in New York City and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York; he was President of his high school class and attended private college on the East Coast for 2 years before enlisting in the military to decipher enemy codes during World War II; he attended the University of Chicago on the GI Bill, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy; he graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Charles Pressman co-founded Pressman & Hartunian, a Chicago law firm that specialized in consumer fraud, employment discrimination, and civil rights violation cases; during the 1950s and 60s, he was Director of the Chicago chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union; in 1982, he left his law firm, but continued to work on cases privately; and

WHEREAS, Charles Pressman is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Michael; his daughter, Sarah Lovinger; his stepson, Steve Weinger; his 2 stepdaughters, Lauren Weinger and Nancy Weinger; his sister, Helen Rausch; his granddaughter; and his 3 step-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Pressman, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Pressman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
