SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard N. "Dick" Gage of Rock Island, who passed away on October 26, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage was born on April 25, 1923 in Ute, Iowa; his parents were Robert Dinsmore Gage and Edith Grieser Gage; he married Gladys L. Cutsinger on August 17, 1946 in Sheldon, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee, Iowa; he later attended Sheldon Junior College and graduated from the University of Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a journalist for 21 years at the WHBF radio and television stations, where he served as assistant news director and editorialist; he also served as public affairs director and conducted the discussion program, At Issue, for the WHBF television station; he earlier worked as a reporter and political columnist for the Rock Island Argus and editor of The Target, the newspaper of the United States Army Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal; in the early days of television, he wrote a column for TV Guide; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage was president of the National Broadcast Editorial Association and secretary of the First Amendment Congress; he served as a volunteer associate for Pathway Hospice; he was also a member and secretary of the essay organization, Contemporary Club; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a pilot with the United States Army Air Forces with the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; and his brother, Robert Dinsmore Gage, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Richard Gage is survived by his son, Douglas; his daughters, Suzann (Jeanette Kangas), Rebecca (Mark) Montgomery, and Laura (James) Daab; and his granddaughters, Jane Stout and Emily Stout; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard N. "Dick" Gage; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Gage as an expression of our sympathy.
