| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Richard N. "Dick" Gage of Rock Island, | 4 | | who passed away on October 26, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage was born on April 25, 1923 in Ute, | 6 | | Iowa; his parents were Robert Dinsmore Gage and Edith Grieser | 7 | | Gage; he married Gladys L. Cutsinger on August 17, 1946 in | 8 | | Sheldon, Iowa; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage graduated from Wilson High School in | 10 | | Cherokee, Iowa; he later attended Sheldon Junior College and | 11 | | graduated from the University of Iowa; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a journalist for 21 years | 13 | | at the WHBF radio and television stations, where he served as | 14 | | assistant news director and editorialist; he also served as | 15 | | public affairs director and conducted the discussion program, | 16 | | At Issue, for the WHBF television station; he earlier worked as | 17 | | a reporter and political columnist for the Rock Island Argus | 18 | | and editor of The Target, the newspaper of the United States | 19 | | Army Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal; in the early days | 20 | | of television, he wrote a column for TV Guide; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage was president of the National |

| 1 | | Broadcast Editorial Association and secretary of the First | 2 | | Amendment Congress; he served as a volunteer associate for | 3 | | Pathway Hospice; he was also a member and secretary of the | 4 | | essay organization, Contemporary Club; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a pilot with the United | 6 | | States Army Air Forces with the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy | 7 | | during World War II; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage was preceded in death by his parents; | 9 | | his wife, Gladys; and his brother, Robert Dinsmore Gage, Jr.; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Richard Gage is survived by his son, Douglas; his | 12 | | daughters, Suzann (Jeanette Kangas), Rebecca (Mark) | 13 | | Montgomery, and Laura (James) Daab; and his granddaughters, | 14 | | Jane Stout and Emily Stout; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 17 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard N. "Dick" | 18 | | Gage; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Richard Gage as an expression of our | 21 | | sympathy.
