| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John W. Buckner, who passed away on | 4 | | September 16, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Buckner was born on October 7, 1955 to Elijah | 6 | | L. and Essie Mae Buckner; he attended Simeon and Parker High | 7 | | Schools in Chicago; he served in the United States Navy and | 8 | | mastered the art of painting, dry-walling, and plastering at | 9 | | trade school; he married Louise on March 14, 1981 at Pleasant | 10 | | Gift Missionary Baptist Church; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Buckner co-founded Buck & The Deacon, an | 12 | | interior decorating service; he spent many hours volunteering
| 13 | | with the local aldermans in
the 21st Ward office in the early
| 14 | | 90s, promoting voter registration
and get-out-the-vote | 15 | | campaigns; he joined the Chicago Police
Department as a | 16 | | civilian
employee in May of 1990 and held various positions | 17 | | within
the department; his most recent role
was supervisor for | 18 | | the Equipment
and Supply Department; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Buckner enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, | 20 | | and playing and teaching guitar; he also found
time to coach | 21 | | his son's little league
baseball team in his younger
years; he | 22 | | and his wife were members of Mt. Hermon Missionary

| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Buckner was preceded in death by his 3 | 3 | | siblings, Elijah Buckner, Joann Buckner-Jiles, and Clarence | 4 | | Buckner; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Buckner is survived by his wife of 34 years, | 6 | | Louise; his daughter, LaKeshia Buckner-Smith (Dennis); his | 7 | | son, Darnell Buckner (Thaneshia); his 3 brothers, Robert J. | 8 | | Buckner (Shirley), Raymond L. Buckner (Yvonne), and Charles B. | 9 | | Buckner; his sister, Beverly A. Smith; his dear friend and | 10 | | music brother, Charles Taylor; 5 grandchildren, Jalen, Jamil, | 11 | | Elijah, Chole, and Camron; and a host of nieces, nephews, | 12 | | family, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | John W. Buckner, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 17 | | further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of John Buckner as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
