SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leo L. Bartels of Moline, who passed away on August 23, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Leo Bartels was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 2, 1926 to William Orly and Dora D. Dawson Bartels; he served in the United States Navy during World War II; he served as a 2nd Class Radioman and was part of the first wave to invade Okinawa; he married Beverly L. Bailey in Rock Island on October 24, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Leo Bartels worked as a toll testman for Illinois Bell for 35 years, retiring 1982; and

WHEREAS, Leo Bartels loved gardening and feeding the birds; he was a true craftsman and loved woodworking; and

WHEREAS, Leo Bartels was preceded in death by his parents; his 2 brothers; and his sister; and

WHEREAS, Leo Bartels is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Linda (Chuck) Smith, Michael (Carol) Bartels, Carol L. Bartels, Breck Bartels, Rhonda (Bill) Attwood, Kim (Chuck) Hansen, and Todd (Wendy) Bartels; his 15 grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Lyle L. (Bonnie) Bartels; and his sister, Juanita Bockholder Bartels; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leo L. Bartels, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leo Bartels as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
