SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Army Specialist Joseph Whiting Dimock, II was born
7on May 25, 1989 in Libertyville to Joseph W. and Ellen L.
8Dimock; he was a member of the Wildwood Presbyterian Church,
9where he faithfully attended Sunday School, worshipped, and was
10devoted to the annual summer high school mission trips; he
11loved the outdoors and was an active member of Cub Scout Pack,
12the Venture Crew, and Boy Scout Troop 672, achieving the rank
13of Eagle Scout; for his Eagle Scout project, he collected
14nearly 200 worn American flags so they could be honorably
15retired in a special ceremony; and
 
16    WHEREAS, SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II graduated from Warren
17Township High School, where he was a member of the Warren Blue
18Devils swim team and swim club; in 2006, he and his teammates
19set the junior varsity swim record in the 400-yard freestyle
20relay, and the record still stands today; he had a special
21knack with children and taught swimming for many years through
22the Wildwood Park District; and

1    WHEREAS, SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II enlisted in the United
2States Army during the spring of his senior year and began his
3service that following August; for nearly 3 years he served
4with the 1st Battalion, 75 Ranger Regiment; he was in his third
5overseas deployment, his second in Afghanistan, supporting
6Operation Enduring Freedom; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During his service, SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II
8received the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the
9Parachutist Badge; he was also awarded the National Defense
10Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq
11Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and
12the Army Service Ribbon; he was posthumously awarded the Bronze
13Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal; and
 
14    WHEREAS, SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II is survived by his
15parents, Joseph and Ellen; his brothers, Louis and Michael; his
16paternal grandmother, Elna Jensen Dimock; his maternal
17grandfather, Alan R. McCausland; and numerous aunts, uncles,
18cousins, friends, and fellow soldiers; and
 
19    WHEREAS, SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II was a son, a brother, an
20Eagle Scout, and a United States Army Ranger; this fallen
21soldier deserves to be remembered by the State of Illinois for
22his service to this country; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
3CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of road on
4Route 120/Belvidere Road between John Mogg and Sears Boulevard
5in Grayslake as "Army SPC Joseph W. Dimock II Joey Memorial
6Highway"; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
8is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
9State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
10giving notice of the name "Army SPC Joseph W. Dimock II Joey
11Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
14Transportation and to the family of SPC Joseph W. Dimock, II.
