HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the members of the Morton High School Marching Band on the occasion of being the 2015 State of Illinois Class 2A Champions; and

WHEREAS, The Morton High School Marching Band has been widely recognized as a top performing program in the State of Illinois for the past 11 years; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Neavor is in his 15th year as Morton High School Band Director and has led over 700 individual members; 1 in 5 students at Morton High School are members of the marching band; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Neavor lovingly leads, shapes, and molds his band members into confident and accomplished musicians and performers; and

WHEREAS, With performances at the Presidential Inaugural Parade in 2009 and Bands of America Grand National Semifinals in 2010, 11 consecutive Illinois Class 2A State Championships, and 4 University of Illinois Governor's Trophy awards, the Morton High School Marching Band has built a tradition of excellence and pride in its performance; and

WHEREAS, The Morton High School Marching Band has a long list of notable achievements from 2012 to 2015; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, the Morton High School Marching Band was the Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional Class AA Champion, Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional Finalist, Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional Award Winner for Best General Effect; Grammy Signature School Semifinalist; Illinois Marching Band Championships Governor's Grand Champion Trophy Winner, and the State of Illinois Class AA Champion; the team also performed during halftime at the 2012 St. Louis Rams - Green Bay Packers game; and

WHEREAS, In 2013 and 2014, the Morton High School Marching Band was the Illinois Marching Band Championships Governor's Grand Champion Trophy winner, and the State of Illinois Class AA Champion; the team was also featured in the 2014 Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit of Hometown Teams; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, the Morton High School Marching Band received 3rd Place in Class AA of the Bands of America Atlanta Super Regional; and won an 11th consecutive State of Illinois Class AA Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Morton High School Marching Band has won 12 Grand Championships and over 80 awards since 2012; and

WHEREAS, The Morton Band Parents volunteer selflessly each season, and are an integral part of the band's success; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and congratulate the Morton High School Marching Band, its talented performers, its Director Jeff Neavor, his assistants, and their families on their accomplishments and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Morton High School Marching Band as a symbol of our great respect and esteem.
