HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Mary Chinn for receiving the "2015 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in Champaign in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn went on to complete her residency at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn started her medical practice in Mendota in 1996; and

WHEREAS, When the local hospital discontinued their Obstetric Department, Dr. Chinn received obstetrical privileges at a hospital 20 miles away so patients in her community, many of whom would have difficulty traveling, could continue to receive care locally; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn has a special place in her heart for teenage moms; she has even gone so far as to help them study so they will stay in school and graduate and even collects an array of baby items in her office to offer to those in need; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn provides a great service to growing families and is the only physician in the area to offer childhood immunizations; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn also is very compassionate with her older patients, even performing house calls and comforting their families at visitations after their passing; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn is a mentor to students going into the medical field and often has student observers and residents, whom she encourages to practice in rural areas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn's talents are not limited to the medical field; she has a flair for fashion and is a featured model in the Illinois Hospice Style Show every year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Dr. Chinn for the selfless service she has provided the residents of Mendota for the past 20 years and the impact she has made on multiple generations of its residents; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Chinn as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
