HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Steve Cook of Milford, Michigan will begin his
3attempt to summit the Ama Dablam mountain in Nepal in October
4of 2015 as a charity fundraising effort; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steve Cook's goal is to raise a minimum of $30,000
6for Make-A-Wish Michigan; with a summit at an elevation of
722,349 feet, his goal equals $1.34 for every foot he will
8climb; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Steve Cook has climbed for the past 6 years and
10views this trip to Nepal as an opportunity to bring a higher
11purpose to his climbing by raising awareness and funds for
12Make-A-Wish Michigan; he reached 90% of his fundraising goal 6
13weeks before his climb; his wife, Robin, has been a volunteer
14and supporter of Make-A-Wish Michigan for more than 10 years;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Steve Cook's love for climbing began in 2009 when
17he ascended Mount Rainier in Washington; the Ama Dablam
18mountain in Nepal is rated as "Difficulty Level: Advanced" for
19climbers; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Steve Cook is originally from Taylor Ridge; he has
21a horticulture degree from the University of Illinois of

1Urbana-Champaign; he has been a golf course superintendent
2since 1986; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Steve Cook's journey begins on October 17, 2015
4when he departs Michigan on his way to Los Angeles, California
5and then on to Seoul, South Korea, and finally, Nepal; he
6expects his journey to be completed on November 17; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10honor Steve Cook's attempt to summit the Ama Dablam mountain in
11Nepal and recognize him on his efforts to raise money for
12Make-A-Wish Michigan; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Steve Cook as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
