HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the life of McHenry County
4Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Maness, who recently passed away due to
5injuries suffered in the line of duty on October 16, 2014; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deputy Maness served diligently as a McHenry
7County Sheriff's Deputy for nearly 8 years, placing service to
8the community and a desire to do right above all else; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Prior to joining the McHenry County Sheriff's
10Office, Deputy Maness was a member of the United States Army,
11joining in 1986 and serving with distinction for 20 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, During his Army service, Deputy Maness earned the
13distinction of becoming an Army Ranger; he served as a Ranger
14Instructor and served overseas during Desert Storm; he retired
15with the rank of Sergeant First Class; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Upon joining the McHenry County Sheriff's Office,
17Deputy Maness attended the Police Training Institute, where he
18was awarded the Ervin A. Warren Award, given to the graduate
19who best exemplifies honor, integrity, and professionalism;

1    WHEREAS, Deputy Maness utilized his knowledge and
2dedication to serve as a field training officer, SWAT team
3member, and first aid instructor; he received numerous letters
4of commendation and recognition; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On October 16, 2014, Deputy Maness and his
6partner, Deputy Khalia Satkiewicz, were wounded in the line of
7duty; and
 
8    WHEREAS, For his actions, Deputy Maness was awarded a
9Purple Heart, named Officer of the Year by the Illinois
10Association of the Chiefs of Police, and awarded the Illinois
11State Police Medal of Honor; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Despite his injuries, Deputy Maness vowed to never
13give up during his road to recovery, pledging his dedication to
14walk again, return to duty, and continue his service to the
15community; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18honor the life and service of Deputy Dwight Maness, whose
19dedication to his community, his nation, and public service
20will never be forgotten; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2our deepest sympathy.
