HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the congregation of New Freewill Baptist Church on the occasion of the church's 24th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The members and clergy of New Freewill Baptist Church have undertaken numerous initiatives to serve their community; they have sponsored various Easter and scholastic activities, as well as alternate programs and activities such as "Praise The Lord Night", which is an alternative to Halloween; they have promoted the usage of Project Reality Health Curriculum standards in various Champaign schools; they have also purchased a DVD series, "The Truth Behind Hip Hop", in order to educate others about hip hop's influence in society and the negativity of hip hop usage, in many cases with panel discussions among youth, teachers, counselors, and parents; and

WHEREAS, The pastorate of New Freewill Baptist Church, including Bishop King James Underwood and Minister Theodore Burnett, have hosted numerous workshops on various topics, including financial planning and management, healthy living, and many others; and

WHEREAS, The members of New Freewill Baptist Church take Communion to the sick, shut-ins, and residents of local nursing homes; they also reach out to inmates in local jails and prisons and hold bible study and other programs for all who are interested; and

WHEREAS, The congregation of New Freewill Baptist Church serve as models of piety, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the congregation of New Freewill Baptist Church on the occasion of the church's 24th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to New Freewill Baptist Church as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
