HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Judith Joy on the occasion of receiving the title of Master Editor from the Southern Illinois Editorial Association for 2015; and

WHEREAS, Judith Joy received a master's degree in botany from Cornell University; her education more than qualified her for the position of farm editor for the Sentinel, which she received in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Early on in her career, Judith Joy found it difficult being a woman editor in a male-dominated field, but, over time, her knowledge, experience, and passion won the hearts of her readers and co-workers; and

WHEREAS, Judith Joy has worked for the Sentinel for nearly 50 years; during her time there, she has been promoted to feature editor and has expanded her work through her travel segment; in the stories of her world travels, she has been able to bring back fascinating photos and details that allows her readers to experience many wonders that the world has to offer; and

WHEREAS, Judith Joy has been a tremendous asset to the Sentinel and has inspired readers and helped to pave the way for women in her field; she could not be more deserving in her being named Master Editor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judith Joy on the occasion of receiving the title of Master Editor and wish her many more years of success to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judith Joy as an expression of our admiration and respect.
