HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The International Brotherhood of Electrical
3Workers (IBEW) was founded in 1891; the organization represents
4about 750,000 workers in the electrical industry in the United
5States, Canada, Panama, and several Caribbean nations; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson was born in Moline; he was
7initiated into the IBEW in 1976 and began his apprenticeship as
8an inside wireman with IBEW Rock Island Local 145; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson quickly became an active member
10of IBEW Rock Island Local 145; he was appointed Vice President
11in 1984 and President in 1987; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson led the effort to pass a $5
13million bond initiative in Davenport, Iowa, to help renovate
14the city's waterfront area; in 1998, he helped to oversee the
15construction of the Quad Cities Electrical Training Facility;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 2002, Lonnie Stephenson was appointed
18Representative of the IBEW Sixth District, serving Illinois,
19Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; in 2010, he was
20appointed International Vice President of the IBEW Sixth
21District; and

1    WHEREAS, On May 27, 2015, Edwin D. Hill announced his
2retirement as IBEW International President; Illinois native
3Lonnie Stephenson was named Hill's successor and will assume
4the position of IBEW International President on June 1, 2015;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8congratulate Lonnie Stephenson on the occasion of his
9appointment as International President of the International
10Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and wish him much success in
11his new position; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Lonnie Stephenson as a symbol of our esteem and
14respect.
