HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Fox River Grove School District 3 serves middle-school students in Fox River Grove and their families; one of their teachers, Jane Szybowicz, has taught fifth-graders here since 1996; and

WHEREAS, The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a non-profit, private-sector advocacy group that conducts an ongoing search for enthusiastic and innovative ways to teach history to students throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, For 19 years, Jane Szybowicz has worked tirelessly to maintain and improve her professional work as a teacher, attending many conferences, seminars, and colloquiums where she participates in presentations by other high-level educators and discusses her work; and

WHEREAS, The reputation of Jane Szybowicz has grown among her fellow teachers, her students, and the families of her students because of her obvious enthusiasm for telling stories to her pupils and showing how these stories fit into greater stories, such as the greater story that is American history; and

WHEREAS, In May of 2015, Jane Szybowicz learned that she had been honored by the Lehrman Institute as the 2015 Illinois History Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, As the 2015 Illinois History Teacher of the Year, Jane Szybowicz will now be a candidate for the award of National History Teacher of the Year, to be awarded later in 2015; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jane Szybowicz on the occasion of being honored as the 2015 Illinois History Teacher of the Year and wish her well as she continues her career; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we know that the honor given to Jane Szybowicz also honors her students and their families, who have worked with her to be part of the bigger story that is Fox River Grove Eagle Pride; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Jane Szybowicz, Dr. Tim Mahaffy, Superintendent of Fox River Grove School District 3, and Devin Bright, President of the Fox River Grove School District 3 Board of Education.
