HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Carl Hopson, who passed away on December 5, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was born in Bolton, Mississippi on April 13, 1937 to Fred and Pecolia Hopson; he was educated in the ministry at Chicago Baptist Institute in 1965 and graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in 1976; he married Rosetta Ellis in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson received his license to preach from King David Baptist Church in Chicago in 1968; he was ordained in 1969 under the leadership of Rev. T.H. Wade at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood; he later became the pastor of the Revival Center of Rock of Ages Baptist Church; in 1981, he founded New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson retired from the Proviso Area for Exceptional Children in Maywood; he ministered at the Cook County Jail, evangelized in hospitals and nursing homes, and operated a bread ministry; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson enjoyed singing in the male chorus, bowling, bike riding, and traveling; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was preceded in death by his siblings, Fred, Jr., Eugene, Anderson, AlJonnie, Carwell, and Etta Lee, and by his son, Carl Benjamin; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson is survived by his wife, Rosetta; his 4 daughters, Pecolia, Carmen, Angela, and Crystal; his 3 brothers, Clarence W. (Annie), Roy (Cleo), and Emmett (Joyce); his sisters-in-law, Radie Hopson and Helena Hopson; his god-children, Quincy, Brendia, and Alauna; his 6 grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Carl Hopson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Hopson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
