HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Carl
4Hopson, who passed away on December 5, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was born in Bolton, Mississippi on
6April 13, 1937 to Fred and Pecolia Hopson; he was educated in
7the ministry at Chicago Baptist Institute in 1965 and graduated
8from the Moody Bible Institute in 1976; he married Rosetta
9Ellis in 1967; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson received his license to preach from
11King David Baptist Church in Chicago in 1968; he was ordained
12in 1969 under the leadership of Rev. T.H. Wade at Rock of Ages
13Baptist Church in Maywood; he later became the pastor of the
14Revival Center of Rock of Ages Baptist Church; in 1981, he
15founded New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church; and
16
17    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson retired from the Proviso Area for
18Exceptional Children in Maywood; he ministered at the Cook
19County Jail, evangelized in hospitals and nursing homes, and
20operated a bread ministry; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson enjoyed singing in the male chorus,
22bowling, bike riding, and traveling; and

1    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was preceded in death by his siblings,
2Fred, Jr., Eugene, Anderson, AlJonnie, Carwell, and Etta Lee,
3and by his son, Carl Benjamin; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson is survived by his wife, Rosetta; his
54 daughters, Pecolia, Carmen, Angela, and Crystal; his 3
6brothers, Clarence W. (Annie), Roy (Cleo), and Emmett (Joyce);
7his sisters-in-law, Radie Hopson and Helena Hopson; his
8god-children, Quincy, Brendia, and Alauna; his 6
9grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of family
10and dear friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13mourn the passing of Rev. Carl Hopson, and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Rev. Hopson as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
