HOUSE RESOLUTION

2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives recognize the many phenomenal artistic and
4cultural wonders of our great State; and

5    WHEREAS, A number of Frank Lloyd Wright architectural
6designs, both residential and commercial, have long graced our
7communities; the Emil Bach Home remains a century-old local
8treasure along Sheridan Road on Chicago's North Side; and

9    WHEREAS, The home was designed in 1915 for Emil Bach,
10President of Bach Brick Company in Chicago, with all of
11Wright's legendary flair; the compact two-story home with
12Prairie style appropriations was constructed during a
13personally difficult period of Wright's life, following the
14tragic death of his wife in the Taliesan fire; and

15    WHEREAS, Frank Lloyd Wright began work on the Bach family
16home following his return from Europe; he then commenced with
17the Midway Garden project in 1914 and departed for construction
18of the Imperial Hotel in Japan after the home's completion in
191915; and

20    WHEREAS, The progressively designed, yet human-centric
21home was designated as a Chicago landmark in 1977; the home was

1subsequently placed on the United States Register of Historic
2Places in 1979 and was meticulously renovated in 2013 for
3vacation lodging and travel events; and

4    WHEREAS, Frank Lloyd Wright's boldly democratic style
5focused on architecture for everyman, as opposed to everyman
6for a single architecture, through the use of careful
7standardization; no other modern architect had such a diverse
8career, from designing skyscrapers and gas stations to
9factories and flower stalls; and

10    WHEREAS, The Emil Bach Home proudly commemorates its
11centennial this year; the Home continues to serve Chicago's
12North Side community culturally, aesthetically, and
13economically; therefore, be it

14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16proudly commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Emil Bach Home
17as an important landmark for Chicago and American artistic
18history.
