HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. James C. Underwood on the occasion of his retirement as President of Kaskaskia College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood attended Central Community College in Colombus, Nebraska and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kerney; he subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Arkansas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve and National Guard and is a veteran of the Vietnam War; he also has military education in OCS, Ordinance, Special Weapons, and Infantry; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood has been a farm worker, a cattle and grain truck driver, an accountant for an irrigation pipe manufacturing firm, and has done tax return preparations and accounting for small businesses; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood has taught college courses in management, leadership, business, economics, accounting, college teaching, and various military subjects; he has also taught courses at the Leadership Institute and at distance learning guest lectures; and

WHEREAS, Prior to gaining his position as the President of Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Dr. James Underwood was the President of Northeast Community College in Norfolk, the Chief Academic Officer at Richland Community College in Decatur, and the Vice-President for Finance and Administration at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in Arkansas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood has been published in many journals and newspapers, including the Community College Review and the ACCT Journal; and

WHEREAS, Dr. James Underwood serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. James C. Underwood on the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. James Underwood as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
