HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles
4J. "Charlie" Myler of Aurora, who passed away on April 6, 2015;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Myler was born in Ottawa on June 20, 1931
7to John and Mary Hart Myler; he graduated from Ottawa High
8School at the of 16 and then from the Catholic University of
9America in Washington, D.C.; he obtained his law degree from
10Georgetown University Law Center and was admitted to the
11Illinois Bar in 1955; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree, Charles Myler was
13drafted into the United States Army; he was chosen to be a
14member of the Counter Intelligence Corps and was sent to study
15Romanian at the Army Language School at the Presidio in
16Monterey, California; after 8 months, he was sent to Nuremberg,
17Germany during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and spent 2 years
18working in refugee camps, aiding refugees from behind the Iron
19Curtain; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Upon his discharge from the Army in 1958, Charles
21Myler settled in Aurora and practiced law with the firm of
22Sears & Streit; in 1960, he formed the firm of Ruddy & Myler;

1in 1985, he became the senior partner in the firm known as
2Myler, Ruddy (Philip) & McTavish (Alex); for most of his
3career, he practiced civil litigation and later concentrated
4his practice on Chapter 11 reorganizations under federal
5bankruptcy law; he greatly enjoyed helping small businesses
6emerge from financial difficulties; he was appointed to the
7United States Bankruptcy Court Panel of Interim Trustees in
81978 and served in that capacity until 2013 when he retired; he
9was a member of the Kane County Bar Association, the Illinois
10State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association; he was
11licensed to practice before the Illinois and federal courts;
12for over 30 years, he was the moderator of the Kane County Bar
13Association's annual memorial service for deceased members of
14the local Bar; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Charles Myler co-founded the Fox Valley Special
16Recreation Association; he served on the Special Recreation
17board for over 30 years, serving as President several times; he
18was appointed to the Fox Valley Park District board of trustees
19in 1978, serving on that board for 30 years and as its
20President for one term; he also served on the Fox Valley Park
21District Foundation board until his death; in 1975, he was the
22driving force behind the formation of the Illinois
23Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Authority, a group
24dedicated to the rights of persons with disabilities, and he
25served on the board until it was absorbed into the present

1Illinois Department of Human Services; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Charles Myler enjoyed Alpine skiing, traveling,
3classical music, and owning and piloting his own private
4planes; he also collected fine art and fine wines; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Myler was preceded in death by his parents
6and his brother-in-law, Rocco Russo; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charles Myler is survived by his wife of 28 years,
8Kay; his daughters, Jennifer and Kathe (Mark) Makoui; his
9granddaughters, Hannah Roze and Sarah Abigail Makoui; his
10sister, Mary Margaret Russo; his niece and 5 nephews; his 18
11great-nephews and great-nieces; his first cousin, the Hon.
12William T. Hart; his first cousin, Denis Hart; his
13step-children, Richard Gee, Jon Gee (Becky), and Diane Gee
14Taylor (Tim); his step-grandchildren, Adam Gee, Damon Dombeck,
15and Dylan Dombeck; his mother-in-law, Wilma Stark; and his
16brother-in-law, John Stark (Yanzi); therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19mourn the passing of Charles J. Myler, and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Charles Myler as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
