HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Illinois State Representative Harold Murphy of Markham, who
5passed away on January 5, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on
7April 1, 1940; he graduated with honors from Northeastern
8Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education; and
 
9    WHEREAS, For over 20 years, Rep. Murphy was employed as the
10Executive Director of the Charles Chew Facility of the Illinois
11Secretary of State's Office; he also served on the Board of
12Trustees for South Suburban College and as a City of Markham
13Alderman; he was active with the local school board and the
14Markham Park District; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy served his community as State
16Representative for the 30th Legislative District during the
1788th, 89th, 90th, 91st, and 92nd General Assemblies; his
18legislative committees included Prison Management Reform; the
19Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Advisory Board; the
20Illinois Advisory Council on Alcoholism and other Drug
21Dependency; Higher Education; Financial Institutions; Counties
22and Townships; Commerce, Industry and Labor; Health Care

1Availability and Access; Environment and Energy; Elementary
2and Secondary Education; he served as Co-Chair of the
3Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee, Vice-Chairman of
4the Pension Laws Commission, and Chairman of the Personnel and
5Pension Committee; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy strongly believed in "Doing the Will
7of the People"; he was an active member of Victory Christian
8International Ministries, where he served on the Stewardship
9Ministry and maintained his membership until his death; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife,
11Loretta; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy is survived by his daughters, Vetonia
13(Raven), Karen, and Cassandra (Franklin); his grandchildren,
14Michael, Carolyn, and Jeremiah; and his great-grandchildren,
15Omarian, Jahzlynn, and Kyree; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative
19Harold Murphy, and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further

2presented to the family of Rep. Murphy as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
