HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It has long been a universal goal to eliminate
3traffic accidents and traffic fatalities; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Data has indicated that many traffic accidents are
5a direct result of poor peripheral binocular vision and glare
6from road and car reflections; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Correcting vision problems of drivers is an
8attainable goal; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The minimum requirement for visual acuity is 20/40
10acuity, with or without corrective lenses; drivers with acuity
11between 20/41 and 20/70 are limited to daylight driving only;
12drivers must also have at least 140 degree peripheral vision
13(the ability to see to the side) to have a license without
14restrictions; this requirement is with or without corrective
15lenses; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18encourage all drivers in the State of Illinois to get annual
19eye exams to insure that they are able to drive safely; and be
20it further

1    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2delivered to the Secretary of State, the Illinois State Police,
3and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
