HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has long been a universal goal to eliminate traffic accidents and traffic fatalities; and

WHEREAS, Data has indicated that many traffic accidents are a direct result of poor peripheral binocular vision and glare from road and car reflections; and

WHEREAS, Correcting vision problems of drivers is an attainable goal; and

WHEREAS, The minimum requirement for visual acuity is 20/40 acuity, with or without corrective lenses; drivers with acuity between 20/41 and 20/70 are limited to daylight driving only; drivers must also have at least 140 degree peripheral vision (the ability to see to the side) to have a license without restrictions; this requirement is with or without corrective lenses; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage all drivers in the State of Illinois to get annual eye exams to insure that they are able to drive safely; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Secretary of State, the Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
