HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish
3to congratulate Susan E. Richter for her designation as the
482nd recipient of the First Citizen Award by the Danville
5Chapter of American Business Clubs, Inc.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William L. White founded the first American
7Business Club in Birmingham, Alabama in 1922 as a service
8organization for business professionals; that first club had 50
9members, who adopted the motto of "Shoulders Together", which
10is still used today; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In 1932, the Danville Chapter of AMBUCS started
12presenting an annual award to a community member in recognition
13of outstanding community service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Susan Richter began working in 1976 as a volunteer
15and gift shop manager at the Vermilion County Museum Society in
16Danville; she became the Museum's curator in 1990 and its
17Director in 1991; she has also been the co-editor of the
18Museum's quarterly magazine, "The Heritage", since 1981; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Susan Richter has been instrumental in the
20planning and implementation of the Vermilion County Museum's
21Historical School, which is used by all third graders in

1Danville's School District 118 and most other county schools to
2meet local history programming requirements set by the State;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, From August of 1999 until August of 2000, Susan
5Richter served as chairwoman of the Museum's fundraising
6committee to build the new museum building, which was
7subsequently completed in 2002; she also served as a co-chair
8for the Museum's 50th anniversary celebration and fundraising
9campaign from September of 2013 until May of 2015; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Susan Richter has fostered strong working
11relationships between the Museum Society and other
12organizations throughout Vermilion County, resulting in
13collaborations with 21 other organizations to produce projects
14and programs within the Museum's mission scope; and
 
15    WHEREAS, From 1987 to 2008, Susan Richter served on the
16Illinois Association of Museum Board of Directors, where she
17held the positions of Director-at-Large, Secretary, and Region
182 Director; she also served on the Board of Directors for the
19Illinois State Archives from 2007 to 2013; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Susan Richter served as the president of the
21Danville Garden Club from 1989 to 1990; she also served as
22president-elect from 1987 to 1989 and as treasurer from 1999 to

12015; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Susan Richter served as president of the Women's
3Council of Muncie Baptist Church for 17 years; she also taught
4an adult Sunday school class for 22 years and a children's
5Sunday school class for 10 years; she is also the chairwoman of
6the Memorial Committee and a member of the Christian Education
7Board and the MBC Annex Board; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Susan Richter is a former board member of the
9Danville YWCA, where she also served as secretary, treasurer,
10and as the chairwoman of the fundraising committee; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Susan Richter currently serves on the Red Mask
12Players board as treasurer and previously served on that board
13as secretary and as the chair of the scholarship committee; she
14also serves on the Spring Hill Cemetery Board as the board
15secretary and a member of the Danville Executive Club; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Susan Richter has been honored over the years with
17many distinguished and deserved awards associated with the
18Museum; in 1997, she earned the Illinois State DAR Award for
19Best Program; she was also named "Woman of the Year" by the
20American Association of University Women in 1999 and received
21the Old Towne Preservation Legacy Award for Historical
22Preservation in 2013; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3thank Susan E. Richter for her many years of service to the
4people of Danville and Vermilion County and congratulate her
5for being honored as the 82nd First Citizen Award recipient by
6the Danville Chapter of American Business Clubs, Inc.; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Susan Richter as an expression of our
10congratulations and appreciation for her service to others.
