HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4longtime Illinois State Representative and Senator Robert
5McCarthy; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was born on May 28, 1924 in
7Lincoln; his parents were James and Anna McCarthy; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served proudly in the United
9States Army during World War II; he later graduated from
10Lincoln College and the University of Illinois College of Law
11in 1947, where he was affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta
12Social Fraternity; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served in the Illinois General
14Assembly as a State Representative from 1954 to 1960 and as a
15State Senator from 1961 to 1977; and
 
16    WHEREAS, During his 22 years as a State legislator,
17representing the Decatur area, Robert McCarthy worked
18tirelessly on behalf of those who entrusted him to serve; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy cared deeply about the working
20class and was relentless in his efforts to ensure workers were

1treated with the respect and dignity they deserved; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was a man of great faith who
3believed strongly in giving back to his community; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was joined in his accomplishments
5by his wife of 62 years, Mary McCarthy; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy's positive reputation throughout
7the community is a testament to his character and unwavering
8commitment to improving the lives of those he came into contact
9with; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Robert McCarthy and extend our sincere
13condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Robert McCarthy as an expression of
17our greatest sympathy and respect.
