HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the First Baptist Church of Waukegan on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan was organized in 1905 in one of its member's homes on Lowe Avenue; and

WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan is the oldest African-American Baptist church on the North Shore, and is the mother church of 5 other churches in the area; and

WHEREAS, The First Baptist Church of Waukegan moved to an old small frame building in the midst of a cornfield in 1909 with only 13 members or nine families in its congregation; and

WHEREAS, The legacy that the founders began 110 years ago continues with Pastor Lee Zachary Maxey carrying the torch for the Lord one year at a time; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the First Baptist Church of Waukegan as it celebrates the 110th anniversary of its founding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the First Baptist Church of Waukegan as an expression of our esteem and respect.
