HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John R. Alongi on the occasion of his 90th birthday on January 1, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Alongi is a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle; and

WHEREAS, John Alongi spent the early 1950s as a soldier in the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Upon his return from the war, John Alongi began to help operate his father's Italian restaurant, Alongi's; Alongi's celebrated its 83rd anniversary in 2016 and is now the oldest Italian restaurant in Southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, John Alongi is a former President of the DuQuoin Business Association, which promotes small businesses in the community; and

WHEREAS, John Alongi was the Congressional Economic Director for United States Representatives Kenneth Gray and Glen Poshard; and

WHEREAS, Due to his business successes and outstanding work on Capitol Hill, John Alongi was invited by President Ronald Regan to serve on the Conference on Small Business in 1986; and

WHEREAS, John Alongi founded the Alongi Legacy Scholarship at Southern Illinois University to help the students of Perry County succeed at college; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John R. Alongi on his 90th birthday on January 1, 2017, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Alongi as an expression of our esteem and respect.
