HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nada
4"Hope" Jovicin of Richton Park, who passed away on July 18,
52016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin was born on February 14, 1936 in
7Novisad, Yugoslavia; she immigrated to the United States
8through Trani, Italy in 1949 and became a naturalized United
9States citizen on January 10, 1956; she married Milan Jovicin
10on December 30, 1987; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin retired from A & P Grocery Store
12after a long career in the food industry; she was the owner and
13operator of Smithfield's Local Grocery Store and Butcher Shop
14in Evanston in the early 1990s; she was a real estate agent and
15a 10-year member of the North Shore Board of Realtors and the
16Chicago Board of Realtors; in 2000, she began working for North
17Street Properties; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin was an active member of the National
19Apartment Association from 2000 to 2016; she was an active
20member of the Greater Lexington Apartment Association and was a
21member of the Board of Directors for the organization from 2004
22to 2006; she was a member of the Richton Park Human Relations

1Commission; she was vital in organizing and hosting the Annual
2Neighbor to Neighbor Dinners in Richton Park and an Associate
3Member of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee; and
 
4    WHEREAS, After the Haiti earthquake in 2010, Nada Jovicin
5worked with the "Coalition to Do Good" as a group of Richton
6Park residents organized to bring relief to the orphans of
7Jeremie, Haiti on the "Fill the Bus" project; she was an
8advocate for the Cat Island Sister City Project and became a
9member of the Sister City Committee; in the aftermath of
10Hurricane Katrina, she came to the aid of a family who lost
11everything in the hurricane, taking the family shopping for
12everything they needed to start over and even helping the
13father to find a new job; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin was a founding member of the Red Hat
15Society Richton Park Chapter, also known as the Sizzlin Sistas;
16the Red Hatters volunteered at the Home Owners Association's
17Annual Resident Picnic every year and at their personal expense
18cooked and served more than 200 full course meals each year; in
192012, the Red Hat Society adopted an "Aunt Martha's" group home
20and served as mentors to young people; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin was the recipient of the 2013 Citizen
22of the Year award in the Richton Park "I Make a Difference"
23Awards program; she was also designated as a 2013 "Peggy A.

1Montes Unsung Heroine of Cook County" for the Fifth District
2and was recognized and awarded a certificate for the Age
3Options Volunteer Awards Luncheon, which connects older adults
4with community-based resources and options; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nada Jovicin was the beloved wife of Milan; the
6dear sister of Dmitrije Subich and family of Novi Sad; and the
7dearest aunt to Angie (the late Ivan) Djurin and her family;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
12Nada "Hope" Jovicin; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Nada Jovicin as an expression of our
15sympathy.
